Both sides of the call

Your mic comes through as You, the call as Other, written down as people talk.

Windows captures the call’s audio directly. On a Mac, the other side needs a virtual audio device such as BlackHole; without one, Koanshell hears only your mic.

Opening it the first timeEarly builds aren’t code-signed yet, so your Mac or PC asks you to confirm once.

On a Mac

  1. Open Koanshell-macOS.dmg and drag Koanshell into Applications.
  2. Open Koanshell. macOS says it can’t verify the app. Close that message. Don’t move the app to the Trash.
  3. Allow it once.

    macOS 15 or later: open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, scroll down to Security, and click Open Anyway next to Koanshell. Confirm with your password or Touch ID.

    macOS 12 to 14: Control-click Koanshell in Applications, choose Open, then click Open again.

  4. Allow the microphone when asked. The first time you press x, allow Screen Recording too; macOS may ask you to reopen Koanshell.

On Windows

  1. If your browser says Koanshell-Windows.exe isn’t commonly downloaded, choose Keep.
  2. Run it. If you see “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Koanshell installs and opens. Allow the microphone if Windows asks.

Only download Koanshell from this site or its GitHub releases page. Koanshell tells you when an update is out and opens that page; it never installs anything by itself.

Does it work with Zoom, Google Meet and Teams?

It doesn’t plug into any of them. Koanshell listens to your microphone and, where it’s set up, your computer’s audio, so it works next to whichever call app you use.

Does Koanshell show up when I share my screen?

Yes. Koanshell is a normal window, and it shows up in screen shares and recordings like any other app. Tell the people you’re meeting with that you’re using it.

What counts as a request?

Each press of z, x or c is one request. Only one answer runs at a time: presses while it’s answering are ignored, and so are held-down keys and shortcuts like Cmd+Z or Ctrl+Z.

Can the answers be wrong?

Yes. Transcripts, summaries and answers are generated automatically and can be wrong or incomplete. Check anything important before you rely on it.

Where is my data processed?

By a small number of service providers, some of them outside India, including in the United States. The privacy policy lists each one and what it receives.
