Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Koanshell ("we", "us") for using the Koanshell desktop app, koanshell.com and the service behind them. By creating an account you accept them. If you don't agree, please don't use Koanshell.
1. Early access
Koanshell is in early access. Features may change, break or be removed, and we may pause the service for maintenance. We'll try to give notice of big changes, but we can't promise the service will always be available or error-free.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Give us a real email address you can receive mail at.
- Keep your password to yourself. One account is for one person; don't share it or resell access.
- Tell us at security@koanshell.com if you think someone else has used your account.
3. Consent of the people you meet with
Koanshell transcribes everyone it can hear. You are responsible for telling the other people in a meeting and getting their consent wherever the law, your employer or the meeting's organiser requires it. Recording and transcription laws differ between countries and states. Don't use Koanshell where you are not allowed to record or transcribe.
4. Acceptable use
Don't use Koanshell to:
- break any law, or anyone's privacy or confidentiality obligations;
- get help in an exam, test, assessment or interview where the rules don't allow outside assistance;
- harass, deceive or harm anyone;
- probe, overload, reverse-engineer or get around the service's security, limits or billing;
- build a competing service from its output, or access it by automated means other than the app.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
5. Limits and payment
- Use is subject to fair-use limits, such as how many days per month, minutes per session and requests you can use, and a monthly spending cap. The app shows when you reach one.
- Early-access pricing is what we agree with you when we give you access. Paid access runs until the end date we confirm to you.
- Fees already paid are not refundable, except where the law requires or where we end your access early without cause (then we refund the unused part).
6. AI output
Transcripts, summaries and answers are generated automatically and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Check anything important yourself. Don't rely on Koanshell for medical, legal, financial or other professional advice, or for decisions where a mistake could cause harm.
7. Your content
Your meetings, questions and instructions are yours. You give us permission to process them only to run Koanshell for you, as described in our Privacy Policy. We don't use them to train AI models. Koanshell itself, including the app, the website and our brand, belongs to us.
8. The desktop app
Early-access builds are not code-signed, so macOS and Windows show a warning when you first open them. Only download Koanshell from koanshell.com or its official GitHub releases page. We'll tell you in the app when an update is available.
9. Ending
You can stop using Koanshell and delete your account in the app at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if we have to by law, or if we shut the service down; in the last case we'll give you at least 30 days' notice so you can export anything you need.
10. Disclaimers and liability
Koanshell is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits, data or opportunities. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law.
11. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll email you at least 14 days before the change. Using Koanshell after that means you accept the new terms.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Please contact us first so we can try to sort things out; otherwise disputes go to the courts of India.
